The Ghana Police Service has stepped up enforcement against dangerous and unauthorised vehicle practices in Kumasi, targeting sirens, strobe lights, improvised headlamps, and reckless use of road shoulders.

The Ashanti Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), backed by officers from the Central MTTD in Accra and the National Headquarters, mounted a coordinated operation at the Airport Roundabout and Santasi Roundabout.

In just one sweep, 188 vehicles were intercepted for traffic offences ranging from illegal sirens to improvised lighting systems. Officers removed and seized the devices on the spot, while drivers were cautioned and educated on compliance with Ghana’s Road Traffic Regulations.

Police officials stressed that the campaign is not a one‑off exercise but part of a nationwide push to restore discipline on Ghana’s roads. By clamping down on unauthorised modifications and reckless driving habits, the service aims to reduce accidents and improve public safety.

The enforcement drive underscores a broader message: road safety is a shared responsibility, and compliance with regulations is essential to protect lives and maintain order.
