Controller and Accountant-General Kwasi Agyei has announced that teachers whose promotion records are verified and cleared after October 16 will have their arrears included in their November salaries.
He explained that teachers whose promotions are validated and approved by the October 16 deadline will receive their payments through a supplementary payroll process, while those cleared after that date will have their promotion-related payments processed in November.
“If by the 12th or 13th, that is next week, we’ll be done with the validation process, whatever has been validated, cleared by us, will be paid on or before 16th October,” he said on Eyewitness News on Thursday, October 8.
“Then after 16th, whatever input forms and whatever process that is done is to be added into the November salary,” he added.
The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department is currently validating promotion records submitted by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure they match teachers’ payroll information before payments are approved.
Mr Agyei disclosed that, as of 2 p.m. on Thursday, the GES had processed 52,000 promotions on its system and submitted the necessary input forms for verification.
He said the validation exercise was intended to confirm teachers’ new grades, effective promotion dates and the arrears owed to them before the payments are made.
The announcement comes as teacher unions remain on strike over several outstanding demands, including promotion-related payments, a proposed deprived-area allowance and the renewal of their collective agreement.
