The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources has announced that Cabinet has directed the immediate revocation of Executive Instrument (E.I.) 144, as amended by E.I. 234, restoring the Achimota Forest to its original status as a Forest Reserve.
According to the Minister, the decision is aimed at preserving the forest’s role as a vital ecological safety zone for Accra and surrounding communities.
The revocation effectively reverses changes introduced under the Executive Instruments, which had sparked public debate and concerns from environmental groups over the future of the Achimota Forest.
Government says the move underscores its commitment to environmental protection and sustainable management of the country’s forest resources.
The Achimota Forest remains one of Ghana’s most important green spaces, serving as a critical buffer against climate-related risks while supporting biodiversity within the Greater Accra Region.
