Gunmen abduct Kebbi high court judge
Justice Faruku Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court has been abducted by suspected gunmen from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area, prompting an intensive search by security agencies.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday after the judge had reportedly returned home from Sokoto State. According to a family source, the armed men stormed his residence along Zogirma Road shortly after midnight, shouting as they carried out the operation. Although the commotion drew the attention of nearby residents, the attackers escaped with the judge without harming other occupants of the house.
The abduction was promptly reported to the police and the management of the Kebbi State High Court.
Relatives of the judge have appealed to the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure his safe release, while also urging Nigerians to pray for his return.
A senior official of the Kebbi State High Court, who spoke anonymously, described the incident as a serious blow to the judiciary and confirmed that court authorities were working closely with security agencies to facilitate the judge’s rescue.
The Kebbi State Police Command also confirmed the abduction. Police spokesperson SP Bashir Usman said Commissioner of Police Umar Hadejia had immediately deployed tactical and intelligence teams to locate and rescue Justice Bunza.
Usman added that security operatives have launched a coordinated manhunt, searching suspected hideouts and nearby forest areas in an effort to rescue the judge unharmed and arrest those responsible.
No group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping, and investigations remain ongoing.
