NPP schedules October election to choose new national executives
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will elect its next national executives on October 3 after approving a roadmap for one of the party’s most important internal contests ahead of the 2028 elections.
The party has announced that nominations will open on August 17, marking the start of a process expected to attract competition for several key leadership positions at its national headquarters.
Aspirants will undergo vetting before the final list of candidates is approved for the polls, which will be conducted by the Electoral Commission under the party’s election guidelines.
To qualify, candidates must be active members of the NPP, be in good standing and meet the party’s endorsement and membership requirements. Separate committees have been established to handle vetting and appeals arising from the process.
The elections will be decided by an electoral college made up of party executives, Members of Parliament, patrons, TESCON representatives and delegates from various party structures across the country and abroad.
The contest will fill several top positions, including National Chairman, General Secretary, National Organiser, Treasurer and Communication Director.
The NPP says nomination forms will attract different fees depending on the office being contested, with the highest amount reserved for aspirants seeking the National Chairman position.
The October vote is expected to shape the party’s leadership structure as it prepares for future national political contests and seeks to rebuild following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
