Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, has been elected the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman after securing a convincing win in Saturday’s regional executive elections.
COKA polled 658 votes to defeat his main contender, Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, a former Bantama Member of Parliament and former Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), who obtained 269 votes.
The significant margin of victory gives COKA a strong mandate to lead the NPP’s regional structures in the Ashanti Region, a key stronghold of the party.
Before the election, COKA had expressed strong confidence in his chances, predicting that he would secure at least 90% of the votes.
His prediction reflected his confidence in his support base and the backing he believed he had among delegates across the region.
The Ashanti Regional chairmanship is considered one of the NPP’s most influential regional positions due to the region’s importance to the party’s electoral fortunes.
COKA is therefore expected to play a key role in strengthening unity, grassroots mobilisation and coordination as the NPP prepares for future electoral contests.
Despite his experience as a former legislator and EPA chief executive, Dr Kokofu secured 269 votes in the closely watched contest.
