Founder of Power Chapel Worldwide, Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, has declared that no amount of pressure or criticism will force him to abandon his friendship with former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking to his congregation in remarks that have since circulated widely on social media, the outspoken preacher said he remains proud of his relationship with Dr Bawumia and his wife, Samira Bawumia, and has no intention of distancing himself from them.
Rev. Kusi Boateng stated that he would rather face imprisonment than deny or conceal the friendship, insisting that personal relationships should not become grounds for intimidation or public attacks. He noted that he had experienced prison before and was not frightened by threats or speculation.
The pastor’s comments come at a time when public attention remains focused on the National Cathedral project, where he previously served as Secretary to the Board of Trustees. The project has been the subject of multiple audits and investigations into its finances, procurement processes and overall management.
Over the past three years, several state institutions, including CHRAJ, the Office of the Special Prosecutor and auditing firms engaged by government, have examined various aspects of the controversial project. Authorities are still awaiting the outcome of a broader forensic audit before determining whether any further legal action will be taken.
Rev. Kusi Boateng has previously been at the centre of disputes surrounding the cathedral project following allegations raised by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. While some claims were dismissed by investigators, other concerns relating to procurement and financial transactions triggered recommendations for additional scrutiny.
The latest remarks by the clergyman are expected to reignite public discussion about his role in the cathedral project and his close association with senior figures in the previous NPP administration.
For now, however, Rev. Kusi Boateng appears determined to make one point clear: his friendship with Dr Bawumia is not something he intends to apologise for or abandon, regardless of the political or legal controversies surrounding him.
