Court adjourns Hanan Abdul-Wahab case over lawyers’ health issues
Justice Francis Achibonga has adjourned proceedings in the case involving former National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) Chief Executive Officer Hanan Abdul-Wahab to Wednesday, August 26, to consider requests from defence lawyers seeking an adjournment on health grounds.
Counsel for the accused, Godfred Yeboah Dame, who represents Hanan Abdul-Wahab, and Augustine Obour, representing Faiza Seidu, were both absent from court.
The accused persons, however, submitted letters from their lawyers requesting that the case be postponed because of health concerns.
Deputy Attorney General Dr Justice Srem-Sai questioned the request, noting that Mr Dame’s letter did not include a medical report to support the health condition cited.
He also raised concerns about the letter submitted by Mr Obour, pointing out that the doctor who signed the document had not clearly identified himself as a medical practitioner.
Although Hanan Abdul-Wahab later provided additional documents to address concerns surrounding the medical report attached to his lawyer’s request, Justice Achibonga adjourned the case for one day.
The additional time will allow Mr Dame to submit the required medical report before the court considers the defence’s request for an adjournment.
