Mahama Ayariga, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings set for vetting today

Parliament’s Appointments Committee is scheduled to vet Majority Leader and Business Committee Chairman Mahama Ayariga on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, following his nomination by President John Dramani Mahama as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

Ayariga is one of three nominees expected to appear before the committee as Parliament begins considering recent presidential nominations for key ministerial and judicial positions.

Also scheduled for vetting on Tuesday is Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, the nominee for Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology, alongside a nominee for appointment to the Supreme Court.

Ayariga, who chairs Parliament’s Business Committee, announced the proposed vetting schedule during proceedings on Monday, August 24.

Under the timetable, the committee will consider the two ministerial nominees and one Supreme Court nominee on Tuesday, before vetting two additional Supreme Court nominees on Wednesday, August 26.

The vetting will allow committee members to assess Ayariga’s qualifications, professional experience, policy positions and suitability for the Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs portfolio.

The exercise forms part of Parliament’s broader consideration of presidential nominations submitted for approval.

The process follows a request by the Business Committee for a waiver of the Standing Orders provision requiring presidential nominations to be published before consideration.

The waiver is intended to enable the Appointments Committee to proceed with the vetting process without being delayed by the usual publication requirement.

After the vetting, reports on the nominees will be submitted to the full House for consideration and approval in line with parliamentary procedures.
