GES opens WAEC Portal for 2026 SHS placement exercise

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the opening of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) portal for the online submission of school choices for candidates participating in the 2026 senior high school placement exercise.

The portal will remain accessible from Monday, August 24, to Thursday, August 27, 2026, allowing heads of Junior High Schools (JHSs) to capture and submit candidates’ preferred schools.

In a directive issued on August 24 to all Regional Directors of Education, the GES said the exercise is part of preparations for the placement of candidates into senior high schools for the 2026 academic year.

Headteachers who have yet to complete the pre-testing upload of candidates’ school choices on the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) have been instructed to do so by close of work on Monday, August 24.

They are subsequently required to capture and upload the candidates’ information onto the WAEC portal within the four-day submission period.

The GES explained that the WAEC platform allows the same school identification number and password to be used on multiple computers at the same time.

According to the Service, the feature will enable schools with large numbers of candidates to process and upload information simultaneously, helping them complete the exercise within the deadline.

Metro, Municipal and District Directors of Education, alongside Examination Coordinators, have been directed to closely monitor the process and ensure that the information of all eligible candidates is accurately captured, verified and submitted.

Regional Directors have also been tasked with communicating the directive to all affected schools and ensuring full compliance.

The GES emphasised that all eligible candidates must have their details captured and submitted within the four-day window to support the smooth implementation of the 2026 school placement exercise.
