Seven arrested as police intensify anti-narcotics operations in Ashanti Region
A series of intelligence-driven police operations across parts of the Ashanti Region has led to the arrest of seven people suspected of involvement in the sale and distribution of narcotic substances.
The arrests were carried out by the Inspector-General of Police Special Operations Team during coordinated raids at Ejisu, Abrepo Junction and Atimatim, areas identified through ongoing surveillance as possible centres of illicit drug activity.
Police say the operation forms part of broader efforts to disrupt drug networks and curb the circulation of suspected narcotics and unregistered pharmaceutical products within communities.
Among those arrested were two suspects at Ejisu, four at Abrepo Junction and another individual at Atimatim, whom investigators believe had previously evaded attempts to apprehend him.
Searches conducted during the raids resulted in the recovery of various substances and pharmaceutical products. Officers seized packages containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotics, along with quantities of tramadol, rohypnol and other medications believed to be unregistered.
Investigators also recovered hundreds of tablets and capsules as well as an undisclosed sum of cash suspected to be linked to the activities under investigation.
The suspects remain in police custody while authorities work to determine the origin of the substances and establish whether additional individuals may be connected to the alleged operations.
Police have not yet announced formal charges, but officials say investigations are ongoing and further action will depend on the outcome of forensic examinations and intelligence assessments.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has meanwhile appealed to residents to continue supporting law-enforcement efforts by volunteering credible information on suspected criminal activities.
According to the Command, public cooperation remains crucial in tackling the illegal drug trade and improving safety within communities across the region.
Authorities say more targeted operations are expected as part of efforts to dismantle narcotics networks and prevent the distribution of potentially harmful substances.
