Mahama to cut sod for 2,000-bay Airport car park and hotel complex
President John Dramani Mahama is expected to cut the sod on Thursday, August 27, 2026, for the construction of a multi-storey car park and airport hotel complex at the Accra International Airport.
The development will feature a seven-storey car park with more than 2,000 parking spaces, two hotels and a pedestrian walkway linking the facility to the airport terminal.
The complex will also include a shopping mall with a food court, retail outlets and office spaces for rent, as well as a sky lounge and observation deck offering views of aircraft taking off and landing.
Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced the planned sod-cutting ceremony on Tuesday.
The project is expected to address the shortage of parking facilities at the airport. Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) Managing Director Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare previously told Parliament’s Roads and Transport Committee that the existing Terminal 3 car park, which accommodates only 513 vehicles, was inadequate for the airport’s growing passenger traffic.
She also disclosed that the contractor for the new facility had already begun mobilising to the project site.
Construction is expected to take 24 months and will be funded through the Airport Infrastructure Development Charge, a levy imposed on departing passengers that came into effect in April 2026.
