Semenyo makes history as first Ghanaian named in PFA Team of the Year

Antoine Semenyo has etched his name into Ghanaian football history after becoming the first player from the country to be selected for the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.

The Manchester City forward was named in the prestigious XI at the annual PFA Awards ceremony on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, following an outstanding 2025/26 season.

Semenyo features alongside five Arsenal players, four of his Manchester City teammates, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and Brentford forward Igor Thiago.

Arsenal’s David Raya, Jurriën Timber, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães and Declan Rice were rewarded for their contributions to the Gunners’ strong defensive campaign, having conceded just 27 goals in the league.

Manchester City’s representatives are Nico O’Reilly, Rayan Cherki, Erling Haaland and Semenyo.

Fernandes completes the midfield after setting a new Premier League assist record with 21 assists, while Thiago earned his place after finding the net 22 times in the league for Brentford.

Semenyo’s inclusion marks a historic achievement for Ghanaian football, as he becomes the first Ghanaian to be named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.

The honour adds to an impressive spell for the forward since joining Manchester City and further highlights his emergence as one of the Premier League’s top players.

Manchester City’s O’Reilly also received individual recognition, winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award after a breakthrough campaign.
