2 dead, 4 injured in Accra-Kumasi Highway crash
Two people have died and four others sustained injuries in a road accident involving a DAF truck, a VW Sprinter bus and a tricycle at Dr. Marbel Junction on the Accra-Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region.
The crash occurred on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, with the Suhum Municipal Fire Station responding after receiving an emergency call at about 11:21 a.m.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said the six victims comprised five males and one female. One of the injured victims was trapped beneath the DAF truck when firefighters arrived at the scene.
Firefighters used specialised extrication equipment to rescue the trapped person, who was subsequently conveyed to the Suhum Government Hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the DAF truck, with registration number BF 1722E6, experienced brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and crash into the VW Sprinter bus, registered ER 195-24.
The force of the collision reportedly pushed the bus into a parked tricycle, bearing registration number M-25-AS 8071, causing extensive damage to all three vehicles.
The two fatalities were identified as one male and one female, while the four injured victims were transported to a nearby hospital for medical care. Police officers were also at the scene to assist with the emergency response and ongoing investigations.
The Eastern Regional Fire Command has urged motorists to regularly maintain and service their vehicles and exercise greater caution on the roads to reduce the risk of preventable accidents.
