Eric Tinkler eyes future Black Stars or Bafana Bafana coaching role
Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler has expressed his desire to coach a national team in the future, naming Ghana and his native South Africa as possible destinations.
The South African tactician said leading a national team, particularly at the FIFA World Cup, represents the highest level a coach can achieve in his career.
Speaking to Akoma 87.9 FM, Tinkler said coaching a national side is an ambition he hopes to fulfil someday.
“I think the pinnacle for every coach is to coach a national team. I said this last night at a press conference, that is where I would like to see myself,” he said.
The 55-year-old coach said he would be willing to take charge of either the South African national team or Ghana’s Black Stars if offered the opportunity.
Asked whether he would answer the call if either country approached him, Tinkler responded in the affirmative.
“Yes,” he said.
He added that his ultimate ambition is to lead a team at the World Cup, describing the tournament as the biggest stage in international football.
“Be it the South African national team, be it the Ghanaian national team, because you want to be on the biggest stage in the world, which is the World Cup,” he said.
Tinkler was appointed head coach of Asante Kotoko earlier this year and has since begun his tenure with the Ghanaian giants.
His comments have sparked interest over a potential future role with either the Black Stars or Bafana Bafana, although the coach remains focused on his current responsibilities at Kotoko.
