Six arrested after tricycle rider dies following alleged assault in Bolgatanga East
Police in the Upper East Region have launched a homicide investigation after the death of a tricycle rider who was allegedly assaulted during a dispute linked to daily sales proceeds.
The case has led to the arrest of six individuals from the Dulugu-Zuarungu area in the Bolgatanga East District. Investigators are examining claims that the victim, identified as Akolbila Blessing, was attacked after concerns were raised about revenue generated from a tricycle he operated.
According to information released by the Regional Police Command, the incident is alleged to have occurred on August 27. The victim was later discovered unconscious in his room and rushed to the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga for treatment.
Medical personnel, however, pronounced him dead on arrival.
The arrests followed preliminary investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death. Police say the suspects remain in custody and are assisting with enquiries as officers work to determine what transpired and the extent of each person’s involvement.
The Command has not yet announced any formal charges, indicating that investigations are still ongoing.
In its statement, the police urged members of the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands when disputes arise, stressing that grievances should be reported through lawful channels for resolution.
Authorities have assured residents that anyone found responsible for the incident will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
