16 killed, dozens injured in bus crash on Egypt’s Red Sea coast
A deadly road accident on Egypt’s Red Sea coast has left at least 16 people dead and 28 others injured after a bus crashed in South Sinai on Wednesday.
The accident occurred on the highway linking the coastal towns of Dahab and Nuweiba, a route frequently used by residents and tourists visiting the region. Emergency services rushed to the scene, with Egyptian health authorities deploying around 20 ambulances to assist victims and transport the injured to nearby medical facilities.
While officials have yet to determine the cause of the crash, reports indicate that some of those who died were Jordanian nationals, highlighting the international impact of the tragedy in a region popular with foreign visitors.
The crash adds to growing concerns over road safety in Egypt, where traffic accidents continue to claim thousands of lives each year. Official figures recorded nearly 6,000 road deaths in 2025, with dangerous driving practices and infrastructure challenges frequently cited as contributing factors.
The latest incident comes only weeks after another major road tragedy in Ismailia Governorate, where a collision involving two trucks killed 18 people and injured dozens more.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the South Sinai crash as families mourn the victims and injured passengers receive treatment.
