Ghana, China discuss roadmap for new University of Science and Technology in Damongo
Ghana’s Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has held discussions with the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Cong Song, on plans for the establishment of a new University of Science and Technology in Damongo.
The meeting focused on the roadmap for developing the institution, which is expected to strengthen Ghana’s capacity in science, technology and innovation.
According to information shared by TV3 Ghana, the proposed university will receive an initial US$30 million grant from the Chinese government to support its development.
The institution is expected to specialise in emerging fields including artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and digital sciences.
The engagement between the Education Minister and the Chinese Ambassador forms part of efforts to advance cooperation between Ghana and China in the education and technology sectors.
The proposed university in Damongo is expected to contribute to the training of skilled professionals in technology-driven fields and support Ghana’s broader digital transformation agenda.
