Police rescue kidnapping victim after ransom demands escalate

A 30-year-old man who was allegedly abducted in Assin Fosu has been rescued by police after his captors reportedly demanded thousands of cedis from his family in exchange for his release.

The victim, identified as Bismark Amoh, is receiving medical treatment while investigators work to track down those behind the kidnapping, according to the Central North Regional Police Command.

The case triggered concern among relatives after the suspects allegedly sent disturbing videos to the family showing the victim being physically abused while pleading for help. The recordings were reportedly shared through WhatsApp using the victim’s own mobile phone.

Family members are said to have initially been ordered to raise GH¢45,000 within 24 hours to secure his freedom. In an effort to save him, relatives and friends reportedly mobilised support and raised GH¢19,500, which was handed over to the abductors.

Despite receiving the money, the suspects allegedly failed to release the victim and instead increased their demands, requesting an additional payment while issuing fresh threats against him.

The situation intensified when the kidnappers reportedly warned that they would kill the victim and destroy evidence if their demands were not met within a new deadline.

Before any further payment could be made, police intervened and rescued Amoh. Authorities have not disclosed details of the operation but say efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest all those connected to the crime.

The police have indicated that more information will be released as investigations continue.
