Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), has clarified that the Commission is not responsible for the deployment of military personnel or any security arrangements related to the elections.
In a press conference to update journalists on December 7, Jean Mensa re-emphasized that the EC has no involvement in security planning
This follows an announcement by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) concerning the deployment of military personnel to various locations for election security.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces have also said that no military officers would be stationed at polling stations.
There have been circulating videos of some military personnel at some polling stations and some using constituency vehicles. Voters at some polling stations hooted these military personnel.
To clarify these concerns, the chairperson addressed the issue in a press conference stating that the Electoral Commission has no hand in security arrangements.
“In terms of security, we have no hand in it and we do not make security arrangements”, she stressed.
