Patrick Yaw Boamah retains Okaikwei Central seat after re-collation of votes

Patrick Yaw Boamah, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, has successfully retained his seat after completing a court-ordered re-collation of votes. The Electoral Commission (EC) declared Boamah, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the winner following the inclusion of results from 31 outstanding polling stations.

The final results showed Boamah securing 21,099 votes, surpassing his closest competitor, Abdulai Abu Baba Sadiq of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who earned 19,368 votes. This declaration followed a High Court ruling mandating the EC to finalize the collation process, which had initially omitted the results from the 31 polling stations.

Justice Forson Agyapong, who presided over the case, emphasized that the omission breached the EC’s obligations and ordered the commission to complete the collation promptly. Boamah expressed gratitude for the outcome, noting that he always had faith in the numbers and the legal process.

The resolution of this dispute brings clarity to one of the key constituencies where election results were contested.
