Bullet, CEO of Rufftown Records, has called for an end to the renewed conversations surrounding the controversial incidents at the 2019 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), firmly maintaining that the late Ebony remains the rightful Artiste of the Year.
In a social media statement, Bullet expressed disappointment over the resurgence of discussions about the chaotic events that unfolded during the awards night a night marked by onstage tension and the brandishing of a firearm during a clash between rival camps. He warned that reopening such debates only rekindles traumatic memories and risks glorifying violence, especially for young fans who were deeply affected by the scenes.
“Why is the 2019 TGMA chaos being talked about again?” he asked. “To the best of my knowledge, it was clarified that due to the disruptions with one camp causing confusion and the other pulling a gun Ebony was upheld as the Artiste of the Year.”
Bullet appealed to the public and industry stakeholders to respect the verdict given by the award organizers at the time, urging everyone to move on. He emphasized that revisiting the incident does more harm than good and could trigger painful flashbacks for fans, especially children.
“This conversation brings nothing but bitterness and promotes a culture of violence in our music space,” he said. “Do you know how many people especially kids are still traumatized by that gun incident? This discussion must end now and forever. Ebony is the 2019 Artiste of the Year.”
His remarks come amid a wave of renewed commentary from fans and pundits reflecting on the awards night that saw two of Ghana’s biggest acts and their entourages clash, resulting in the suspension of that year’s top awards.
