Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has filed a defamation lawsuit against media personality Afia Schwarzenegger, accusing her of spreading false and damaging claims about his personal life.
The suit, filed on Wednesday, July 23, seeks to clear what Mr. Gyamfi describes as a calculated attempt to smear his reputation through “false, malicious, and deliberately contrived” allegations.
At the heart of the lawsuit are accusations made by Afia Schwarzenegger, suggesting that Mr. Gyamfi has multiple girlfriends at the University of Ghana and has purchased vehicles and property for them.
In his statement, Mr. Gyamfi firmly denied the claims, stating: “I have no girlfriend(s) at the University of Ghana and have not at any time purchased vehicles for any so-called girlfriends as claimed by Defendant.”
He also dismissed allegations that he had bought property in the United States or elsewhere for his wife or a sister-in-law, insisting that his wife does not even have a sister named “Vida,” as purported by the Defendant.
Mr. Gyamfi accused Afia Schwarzenegger of making the claims either with full knowledge of their falsity or with “unpardonably reckless disregard for the truth,” noting that the remarks were intended to paint him as “morally depraved and without scruples.”
The NDC politician and GoldBod CEO said the fallout from the allegations has been damaging, leading to numerous calls and concerns from colleagues, party officials, family members, and associates both in Ghana and abroad.
He explained that beyond defending his reputation, the legal action is aimed at discouraging similar reckless and defamatory attacks on public figures in the future.
