The government has given MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DSTV, until August 7, 2025, to reduce subscription prices by 30 percent or risk suspension of their broadcasting licence.
The directive was issued by the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, during the Government Accountability Series, as part of a wider consumer protection initiative.
The minister argued that DSTV’s current pricing in Ghana is unfair compared to other African markets, citing wide disparities for the same content. He also criticised MultiChoice’s response to the Ministry’s concerns, describing some remarks as disrespectful to Ghana’s economic recovery efforts.
The National Communications Authority has been instructed to act if the company fails to comply with the directive, marking the first time a firm deadline with regulatory consequences has been set in the long-running debate over DSTV’s pricing.
