Media personality Captain Smart has sparked debate with a bold comparison between dancehall icon Shatta Wale and the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba.
In a video posted on X on 22 August 2025, Captain Smart lauded Shatta Wale’s artistry, arguing that his creative brilliance rivals that of Daddy Lumba.
According to him, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has made remarkable contributions to Ghana’s music scene achievements that, in his view, make him the “Daddy Lumba of this generation.”
Captain Smart stated:
“This is not because I like Shatta Wale, but whether you like it or not, Shatta Wale is the Lumba of our time. You can choose to hate him or like him.”
His comments come at a time when Shatta Wale is embroiled in controversy, particularly an investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) into his 2019 Lamborghini Urus.
The artiste was taken into EOCO custody on Wednesday, 20 August 2025, after voluntarily appearing at the agency’s headquarters in Accra with his lawyer, Cephas Biyuo.
The probe centers on suspected irregularities surrounding the luxury car, which had earlier been seized on allegations of links to a wider U.S. financial scandal. Authorities are also looking into potential violations of Ghana’s tax laws related to the vehicle.
Shatta Wale was released the following day, 21 August 2025, after satisfying revised bail conditions of GH₵5 million with two sureties.
