Ebo Buckman, a leading member of the Movement for Change, has argued that Alan Kyerematen, the party’s presidential candidate, stands tall above all the flagbearer aspirants the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has produced or may produce to lead the party in the 2028 elections.
According to him, The Movement for Change presidential candidate, John Alan Kyerematen, is a better candidate than all the flagbearer aspirants of the NPP.
“Well, I don’t wish the NPP to win the 2028 elections because Alan Kyerematen is better than all the candidates the NPP is producing or will produce”.
Speaking on TV3’s New Day on Friday, Mr. Buckman stressed that the party risks making a strategic mistake if it fails to align its choice of candidate with the prevailing political and socio-economic market.
“But if you are going to be very sincere and consider the nature of the market, you will understand that certain factors determine elections everywhere in the world,” he said.
He noted that the key factors shaping electoral outcomes include the state of the economy, ethnic considerations, and religious dynamics.
“If you are a political party and you are going to elect your candidate, this is free advice. You don’t only look at the products you are producing.
“You juxtapose the product with the market that is existing market, and see the dynamics, and see the kind of product that if you go to the market with, you don’t have to shout too much”
He cited Senegal as an example, noting that political parties there factor in the religious composition of the electorate when choosing candidates.
Mr. Buckman described Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as a bad fit for the current political market, arguing that the NDC will strategically wait until the NPP confirms its flagbearer before selecting a candidate that gives them an advantage.
“NDC is going to wait, the moment NPP picks a candidate, they will survey the market and pick a candidate that can easily have an advantage over NPP’s candidate. So the NPP must be very careful, even though I don’t want them to win”.
He further criticized the NPP’s eight-year record in government, likening it to a failing corporate CEO seeking repeated extensions despite poor performance.
“If MTN Ghana employed a CEO who failed after four years, and the person came back asking for another chance, they would sack him. That is the same situation with the NPP. Ghanaians are dissatisfied with their performance,” he said.
Touching on the NDC, Mr. Buckman claimed the party should have won the 2020 elections but lost due to irregularities during the counting process, describing it as a case of winning by voting but losing by counting.
He concluded that the NPP risks repeating its 2016 playbook of what he described as propaganda and deception, warning that the Ghanaian electorate has become more discerning.
