Prisoner holding metal cage in jail, no freedom concept
The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Benjamin Owusu, for staging a fake robbery and kidnapping at Fijai, a suburb of Millennium City in Gomoa Nyanyano, Central Region.
According to police, Owusu sent a distress text on September 3, 2025, claiming he was under attack at his home. Officers rushed to the scene but found no trace of him. Instead, bloodstains were discovered on the bedroom floor, later confirmed through forensic analysis to be non-human.
Investigations revealed Owusu had discarded the SIM card used to send the message, but resumed making calls traced to Elubo in the Western Region on September 5. Acting on intelligence, police arrested him at a hideout in Akatamanso, Ashanti Region, on September 24.
During interrogation, Owusu confessed to killing a duck and using its blood to stage the crime scene. He admitted fabricating the incident in an attempt to conceal his inability to account for money belonging to his employer.
Police confirmed on September 25 that Owusu will be arraigned after investigations are completed. The Command commended the public for assisting with his arrest and cautioned that anyone attempting similar acts will face the full force of the law.
