Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has called on Ghanaians to remain patient with the national team following their exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stressing that head coach Carlos Queiroz needs more time to implement his philosophy.
Speaking after Ghana’s 1-0 defeat to Colombia, which ended the team’s World Cup campaign at the Round of 32 stage, Ayew said it was unrealistic to expect immediate results from a coach who had only been in charge for two months.
According to the Ghana captain, adapting to a new tactical system takes time and cannot be achieved within a few weeks.
Ayew noted that the team’s defensive performances had improved under Queiroz but admitted they struggled to create and convert scoring opportunities during the tournament.
He said Ghana must now focus on finding the right balance between defensive solidity and attacking effectiveness if the team is to make further progress.
The Leicester City forward expressed confidence in Queiroz’s abilities, describing him as an experienced and capable coach who deserves the opportunity to build the team.
He stressed that continued hard work and patience would be essential for the players to fully understand and execute the manager’s ideas, adding that the team is capable of improving over time.
Ayew’s remarks come as the Black Stars face criticism following their early elimination from the World Cup. However, he argued that stability and continuity are more important than making another managerial change, insisting that long-term success depends on giving both the coach and the players sufficient time to develop a clear identity.
Ghana’s defeat to Colombia brought an end to their World Cup campaign, with Ayew urging supporters to continue backing the team as it undergoes its rebuilding process under Queiroz.
