The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is set to commence the distribution of relief items to victims of the recent floods across affected communities nationwide from Saturday, July 4, as part of the government’s ongoing humanitarian response.
The announcement was made by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, during a media briefing at the Jubilee House on Friday, July 3.
He said the relief exercise is part of broader efforts to assist families and communities affected by the devastating floods, which have resulted in deaths, displaced residents and caused extensive property damage, particularly in the Greater Accra Region.
According to the minister, emergency supplies have already been delivered to some of the hardest-hit areas, while the next phase of the operation will extend assistance to other flood-affected communities across the country.
Mr Kwakye Ofosu assured the public that the government remains committed to supporting victims throughout the recovery process and ensuring they receive the necessary relief.
He also urged residents to remain alert, follow safety advisories and cooperate with emergency response agencies as relief and recovery operations continue.
“As we deal with the aftermath of this disaster, we encourage all citizens to remain vigilant, observe safety precautions and promptly report emergencies,” he said.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to rebuilding affected communities, the minister said the Mahama administration would continue working until displaced families are resettled, damaged districts restored and communities rebuilt to better withstand future disasters.
Recent heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding in several parts of the Greater Accra Region, leading to loss of life, widespread displacement and significant destruction of homes and other property. Emergency agencies remain on the ground carrying out rescue, recovery and relief efforts in the affected areas.
