Agbodza warns contractors: delays mean no Big Push deals

Roads and Highways Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza has indicated that contractors with a history of delaying road projects may be left out of future contracts under the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme.

According to the Minister, the government intends to prioritise contractors who consistently deliver projects on schedule, stressing that poor performance on existing contracts will weigh heavily against firms seeking new opportunities.

Mr Agbodza made the remarks during an inspection tour of ongoing road works in the Northern Region, where he assessed progress on key infrastructure projects.

While cautioning underperforming contractors, the Minister praised work on the Tamale Outer Ring Road, expressing confidence that the project remains on track for completion by the end of 2027.

He noted that the road will play a significant role in supporting Tamale’s rapid growth by improving transportation and opening up the city to greater investment opportunities.

“We believe the quality of life in this town would improve greatly when we finish this road. Tamale is one of the fastest-growing cities in West Africa, to be honest. And when we do this, we give an opportunity for further investment and quality of life,” he said.
