Roads and Highways Minister nominee, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has criticized the Akufo-Addo administration for allegedly inflating road construction figures to mislead the public.
Appearing before the Parliament’s Appointments Committee vetting on Monday, January 20, Hon. Agbodza challenged the claim that 11,000 kilometres of roads had been constructed since 2017. He asserted that official records show only 673 kilometres were actually completed during the period.
“The claim that 11,000 kilometres of roads have been constructed is misleading. The reality is far from this, with only 673 kilometres completed,” he said.
Hon. Agbodza argued that the exaggerated figures were part of an effort to present an overly positive narrative of the administration’s achievements in infrastructure development.
He noted that such misinformation makes it difficult for citizens to hold the government accountable.
“Inflated statistics create a false impression of progress while many communities still face poor road conditions that hinder economic growth. Transparency is critical if we want to solve these problems effectively,” he stated.
He concluded by emphasizing the need for honesty and integrity in reporting progress in the roads sector.
“We need to ensure that road construction projects are properly tracked and that the information provided to the public reflects reality. If we want to move forward, we must start with honesty and integrity in reporting our achievements.”
