President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to complete the long-abandoned Krofrom Market project in Kumasi by the end of 2026.
The market, which was initiated in 2008, has been left incomplete for over a decade, turning into a hideout for criminals and a breeding ground for reptiles. Mr. Mahama made the promise during his Thank You tour of the Ashanti Region, where he inspected the stalled facility.
He described the neglect of the market as unacceptable and assured that the NDC administration would take immediate steps to resume and complete construction to restore the project to its intended purpose.
“Just like the mayor said, this project has stalled for a long time, since 2008 it has still not been completed after its commissioning for construction. We had in our manifesto a market enhancement program, where we are upgrading 18 markets. It included Techiman, Mankessim, I’ve directed that the Krofrom market be in the initiative. This will help ease congestion. I believe that by the end of 2026, the Krofrom market will have been completed”
The President also reiterated the NDC’s commitment to developing modern market infrastructure across the country to support traders and boost local economies.
