The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has moved swiftly to shut down speculation that Mrs. Mavis Kumi, widow of the late Akwatia MP Ernest Kumi, intends to run in the upcoming by-election.
In a strongly worded statement issued Tuesday, Eastern Regional Chairman Jeff Konadu Addo dismissed a viral flyer suggesting Mrs. Kumi’s interest in the seat as “false, misleading, and deserving of total contempt.”
According to the party, Mrs. Kumi has no desire to step into active politics and is currently focused on grieving her husband “with dignity and in peace.” The statement emphasized that the widow has been in constant communication with both the party and her family, and has clearly indicated that she is not interested in contesting the vacant seat.
“The flyer circulating on social media does not represent her wishes, and it has not been sanctioned by any official organ of the NPP,” the release clarified.
