McDan denies owing $3 million to Ghana Airport Company amid terminal closure
McDan Aviation, a private air charter service provider, has refuted allegations that it owes the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) $3 million. In a statement addressing the claims, McDan insisted, “We do not owe Ghana Airport Company Limited $3 million. Unfortunately, GACL has chosen this course of action despite the lack of connection between the issues at hand.”
The controversy has escalated following GACL’s decision to lock up McDan Aviation’s Private Jet Terminal, known as Terminal 1. This action reportedly stems from the company’s failure to settle a substantial debt, which GACL claims exceeds $3 million.
A visit to the terminal revealed that security measures have been heightened, with police officers stationed at the entrance to restrict access. Speaking to GHOne/Starr News, Alhaji Abdul Issaka Bamba, Chairman of the Ghana Airport Company Divisional Union of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of TUC, expressed full support for the closure. He stated that the unpaid debt, which reportedly involves outstanding rent and land fees, has been overdue for a considerable period.
“The Union backs management’s decision to enforce payment. Any other entities owing the company will face similar actions,” Bamba warned.
The situation highlights tensions between GACL and its partners, with calls for improved accountability and resolution to avoid disruptions in operations. McDan Aviation, however, maintains its position, calling for further clarity on the matter.
