Sammy Gyamfi drags Afia Schwarzenegger to court over false property, relationship claims
Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of Goldbod and National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has denied allegations that he bought property in the United States for his wife or her alleged sister.
Describing the claims as false and malicious, Mr. Gyamfi has filed a GH¢10 million defamation lawsuit against media personality Afia Schwarzenegger at the High Court.
In his statement of claim, filed on Wednesday, July 23, Mr. Gyamfi said the statements made by Afia Schwarzenegger were intentionally designed to damage his reputation and make the public view him as immoral and irresponsible.
He strongly refuted allegations that he is romantically involved with students at the University of Ghana or has purchased cars for any alleged girlfriends.
Mr. Gyamfi also denied ever buying any property for his wife or any of her relatives, stating clearly that “his wife does not even have a sister called ‘Vida’ as published by the Defendant.” He added that a basic fact-check would have proven this claim to be false.
He accused the defendant of knowingly spreading lies or doing so with complete disregard for the truth.
According to the suit, the false publications have caused significant damage to his image, with Mr. Gyamfi receiving countless calls and inquiries from high-profile government officials, senior NDC members, friends, and family, both in Ghana and abroad.
Beyond seeking GH¢10 million in damages, Mr. Gyamfi said the legal action is also meant to restore his reputation and serve as a warning against defamatory attacks on public figures.
