The total value of mobile money transactions in Ghana has recorded a 44% growth, climbing from GHC224 billion in 2024 to GHC323.2 billion in June 2025, according to the Bank of Ghana’s latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data report.
The data reveals sustained growth in the mobile money ecosystem over the past year. Registered accounts climbed steadily from 69.3 million in June 2024 to 76.4 million by June 2025. While active accounts (those used at least once in the previous 90 days) showed more modest growth, stabilizing around 24 million.
The number of mobile money transactions climbed up from 644 million in June 2024, settling at 735 million in June 2025. May 2025 recorded the highest, with the total number of transactions peaking at 796 million.
The value of transactions showed consistent year-on-year growth, rising from GHC 224.0 billion in June 2024, to GHC 323.2 billion in June 2025. Transactions value peaked in April 2025, with a record-high of GHC 365.0 billion.

For mobile money interoperability (allowing seamless transfers between different providers and bank accounts), the data further revealed that the value of interoperable transactions saw a significant growth, shooting up from GHC 2.7 billion in June 2024 to GHC 3.9 billion in June 2025, with May 2025 recording the highest value of GHC 4.5.
Transaction volumes also grew, hitting 23.3 million in June 2025, up from the 16.9 million recorded in June 2024. Balance held within the mobile money system (float) saw a steady growth, increasing from GHC 22.2 billion to GHC 28.9 billion over the year.
For the agent network, the number of registered agent numbers rose from 848,000 in June 2024 to 923,000 in June 2025. However, the number of active agents dropped by 128,000, from 551,000 in June 2024, to 423,000 at the end of June 2025.
Cheque transactions slowed relatively, with the value of cheques cleared in June 2025 (GHC 32.9 billion) and volume (414,000) only marginally higher than the GHC 28.2 billion and 418,000 recorded in June 2024. The data highlighted significant monthly volatility but no strong upward trend.
By June 2025, the value of mobile money transactions dwarfed cheque values by nearly tenfold.
Automated Clearing House (ACH) transactions showed mixed signals: Direct Debit values grew from GHC 208.0 million in June 2024, to GHC 395.1 million in June 20258, but transaction volumes saw a 14.5% increase, from 48,000 in June 2024, to 55,000 at the end of June 2025.
Direct Credit however dropped in both value and volume, recording a 2% decrease in value from GHC 9.3 billion in June 2024, to GHC 9.1 billion as of June 2025. Transaction volumes also declined from 745,000 in June 2024, to 657,000 in June 2025.
